As Good As It Gets A review by: Blake Kunisch Directed by: James L. Brooks Released: December 23, 1997 - US Posted: 1997/12/26 | 8/10 starsThis is a very good and touching movie. Jack Nicholson is great in this movie in his portrayal of Melvin. Helen Hunt is also magnificent as Carol. Melvin meets Carol in a diner where he goes everyday for breakfast. Melvin is obsessive-compulsive and says whatever he wants to say, good or bad. Melvin becomes friends with Carol and when her son is sick, Melvin helps out. Throughout the start of the movie, we see Melvin as a very cold, intolerable person, but as the movie progresses, Melvin changes to become very sympathetic and kind. This movie has a lot of humorous times, but it is very moving. It gives the audience a chance to see what the life of an obsessive-compulsive man is like (to a certain extent) and shows Melvin's complete 180° turnaround. I would recommend this movie to everyone. It is a great movie and Jack Nicholson deserves and Academy Award or Golden Globe for his masterful portrayal of Melvin.
