A Civil Action A review by: Blake Kunisch Directed by: Steven Zaillian Released: January 8, 1999 - US Posted: 1999/01/09 | 9/10 starsA Civil Action, starring John Travolta, has garnered much publicity due to its high-profile cast and supposed strong story. The movie focuses on the pollution of a river in Woburn, a town near Boston, and the death of children and an adult from leukemia, supposedly caused by TCE, a toxic chemical. John Travolta, a greedy personal-injury lawyer, thought that he was better than the two companies he decided to investigate on behalf of the families in Woburn only after finding out that these two companies had a lot of money. This was an enthralling movie which gets the viewer involved in the trial itself. I enjoyed this movie immensely and thought that Robert Duvall was great. Although his performance does not warrant a Golden Globe, his performance is good and better than Travolta's. It is hard though to judge Travolta's performance though since he was playing an arrogant, greedy lawyer who most people hate in the first place. The movie turned in a strong story consistently and was enjoyable to watch. I highly recommend this movie. Genres: Drama Rated: PG-13 - For some strong language.
