Blast from the Past A review by: Blake Kunisch Directed by: Hugh Wilson & Hugh+Wilson Released: February 12, 1999 - US Posted: 1999/02/04 | 7/10 starsBlast from the past, yet another teenager-geared movie was actually better than I expected. I got to see a special sneak preview of this movie thanks to American Express, the American Film Institute, and Entertainment Weekly - Thanks guys, and I have to say, I laughed more than I intended to and I enjoyed the movie overall a whole lot better than I expected to. The plot for this movie is as follows, Adam (or Atom, it's never told to us - Brendan Fraser) spends the first 35 years of his life in a bomb shelter because his eccentric, genius father thought the bomb had been dropped on their house. When he enters the real world for the first time, he is amazed by the sky, the ocean, and other miscellaneous items. I found this to be entertaining even though it had been done before. Because his mother and father had brought him up properly and taught him various things about life, he wasn't completely "out of water" as the proverbial fish, but he did need to get adjusted to the world around him. The movie tries to throw some social commentary in at the end which failed horribly, but unless you look for it, it might pass you by. With a simple premise and a funny script, I enjoyed this movie and think that many other people will enjoy it too. A good movie that I would recommend when it hits the theaters February 12th.
