The Silence of the Lambs A review by: Blake Kunisch Directed by: Jonathan Demme & Jonathan+Demme Released: February 13, 1991 - US Posted: 1999/02/25 | 10/10 starsThe Silence of the Lambs is a classic mystery/suspense film, starring the ubiquitous Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) who is interviewed by the always captivating Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling. This movie, from 1991, is still as haunting as ever and is one of the great classic films (number 65 on the AFI top 100). I'm sure many of you already know and have seen this movie, but for the novice, here it goes: Dr. Lecter is interviewed by Agent Starling in hopes that he might reveal information about another serial killer, "Buffalo Bill." Lecter's brilliant mind is intrigued by the beautiful Starling, and he begins giving her mystifying clues which could be helpful or merely a game. The terror builds as "Buffalo Bill" grabs another victim and the countdown to her impending death begins. Finding the madman means Starling must get inside Lecter's mind. The Silence of the Lambs is probably one of the best suspense/horror films that I have ever seen. Jodie Foster is superb and Anthony Hopkins also delivers a brilliant performance. Both actors won the Best Actor/Actress award in their respective category at the Oscars, which were well deserved. Sweeping the Oscars by capturing Best Picture and Best Director, the greatness of the movie was validated. This is in my humble opinion one of the best movies of all time. I highly recommend watching the movie again if you have seen it - and if you haven't seen it, just go buy it because there is no reason to rent it - it's one of those rare movies that can be watched over and over again even though you already know the heart-pounding ending.
