Drop Dead Gorgeous
A review by: Blake Kunisch
Directed by: Michael Patrick Jann & Mickael+Patrick+Jann
Released: July 23, 1999 - US

I went in to Drop Dead Gorgeous with an open mind. The movie had been getting mixed reviews so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I sure didn't expect it to be this funny. Drop Dead Gorgeous combines a documentary about a beauty pageant with a bunch of stupid people. Put all of these people on film and you're bound to get laughs. Starring Denise Richards and Kirsten Dunst as two competing 17-year-olds (17? they don't even look 20) in the Miss Teen America beauty pageant with a whole town behind them, Drop Dead Gorgeous has all of the right elements for comedy. Just throw in some rednecks, trailerpark trash, fat-retarded adults, pedophiles, murderers, drunks, and every walk of life from Minnesota and you have yourself a comedy. Even though I found this movie funny, some of jokes were just downright tasteless. The movie makes fun of all walks of life, but some of the jokes just went too far (in my opinion). I don't really feel like writing a long review of this movie because it really isn't that deep. It's just a funny movie that some people like and some don't (my friend I went with hated this movie - he thought it was the biggest waste of time).
