Titan A.E. A review by: Blake Kunisch Directed by: Don Bluth & Don+Bluth Released: June 16, 2000 - US Posted: 2000/06/20 | 7/10 starsSpectacular animation and a so-so plot combine in Titan A.E. and the finished product is an enjoyable movie that can be watched by the whole family. Cale (Matt Damon) is one of the few survivors of earth after it was destroyed by the Drej (pure electric aliens). 15 years later, he is contacted on a scrap metal salvage ship and told that he holds the key to the future of mankind - his first question when told he has to save the species - "how much am I going to be paid?" And thus we're introduced to the stereotypical reluctant hero. Teamed with the woman (eventual love interest), the befuddled science-genius, and a couple of other stereotypical characters, Cale sets out to save the human race. Like I said in the first sentence, the animation is simply amazing. Blending both standard hand-drawn animation with computer generated graphics, the result is a pleasure to watch throughout. The script is also good considering they writers were probably told that they would have to have all of the typical people, plot elements, along with the standard twists and turns. I enjoyed this movie and thought it was the best of the weekend (beating both Shaft and Boys and Girls). Hopefully it'll make the money it deserves and encourage the big studios to put out more films like this one.
