The Kid

I didn't have great expectations of this movie going in, and that is probably why the movie was better than I expected. While I expected an annoying chubby little kid paired with Bruce Willis, whose recent exploits in The Sixth Sense didn't impress me, the end result was a standard Disney production with the standard moral of the story combined with a little bit of fun.

Three days before Russell Morley Duritz's 40th birthday (Bruce Willis), a kid shows up in is house playing with an airplane from his past and watching TV. Come to find out, this "kid" is Rusty - Russel at age 8 - somehow fast-forwarded 32 years to the present. "Kid" as Russel calls him has been sent from the past to help Russel straighten out all the facets of his life - his ethics, his personal life, and the fact that he doesn't have a dog. The movie presents an interesting story-line, but it has all the same common plot elements that you find in most Disney movies today. The movie has its moments, a couple funny parts here, a couple sappy parts there, and the ever important moral of the story, but overall, it fails to deliver.

The movie ran about 1 hour 50 minutes which was much longer than I thought it would (and you could tell it was running long). Luckily the "kid" (Spencer Breslin) wasn't as annoying as I thought he would be and Bruce Willis was actually good in his role as the cynical, rich bastard. Despite this, the movie just never really got off the ground and just seemed to repeat itself over and over again. Definitely aimed at the young-uns in the family, The Kid will probably entertain them, but bore the adults.

Check out the pictures from the premiere.
