Scary Movie
A review by: Blake Kunisch
Directed by: Keenen Ivory Wayans & Keenen+Ivory+Wayans
Released: July 7, 2000 - US
Posted: 2000/07/07 | 2/10 stars

I didn't really think it would be possible, but Scary Movie is so stupid, it's almost not even bearable. A cross of parodies of the Scream trilogy, the I Know What You Did Last Summers, and various other cultural oddities (think Waasssup), Scary Movie tries too hard to blend together too much in too short of a time period.

I think Ebert said it best, "the most unreviewable movies are those belonging to the spoof genre." And thusly I leave you with this - Scary Movie is nothing more than a poorly thrown together montage of films that more-or-less define the 90's. For the most part, these are just cut-and-pasted together with extra scenes being added on the spur-of-the moment to keep the movie as up-to-date as possible (tired of the -'s yet?).

When asked to name a scary movie in Scary Movie, a character mentions Shaq's Kazaam - with the horrible plot, shoddy acting, and no value whatsoever, Kazaam seems to have been a good answer. However, a better answer would have been Scary Movie itself - a waste of my time, money, and even more time wasted writing this review.
