The 6th Day A review by: Blake Kunisch Directed by: Roger Spottiswoode & Roger+Spottiswoode Released: November 17, 2000 - US Posted: 2000/11/15 | 7/10 starsPlease note that this review is based on a test screening experience, and not on the final cut of the movie which I have yet to see. The 6th Day is a flashback to Arnold's hey-day of the 80's when he made the great action films of Conan, The Terminator, and various others. While the movie is set in the not-so-distant future where cloning has been outlawed by The 6th Day Law (hence the title - an obvious biblical reference), the movie is reminscent of Arnold's earlier, more famous films, and this is what helps The 6th Day rise above most generic action films in theaters lately. When an assasination attempt goes wrong, Arnold is cloned to cover it up, but he wasn't the one who died in the crash. We now end up with 2 Arnolds - one with no idea the other exists, and the other set on uncovering the conspiracy against a never ending barrage of cloned enemies. Director Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies) peppers the film with explosions, car chases and special effects galore to create a visually stunning and fast paced action movie that is entertaining throughout. Though the plot lacks any real substance, just throwing in a storyline as a backdrop for the action scenes, Arnold really is 'back' in this quality movie and doesn't disappoint. Both Duvall and Schwarzenegger turn in good performances to propel the movie seamlessly, and while it's not a film of superior caliber, the action and mostly interesting (though predictable at times) plot are enough to keep you interested throughout.
