Updata & Saving Silverman
Just a quick hello to all the visitors out there. Classes have been extremely hectic this week and with homework due in every class next week on either Monday or Tuesday, updates might be scant until after the storm passes.

I got word from the nice folks over at SavingSilverman.com that they are going to furnish us with some nice prizes for a contest, so look for that to be up soon, and take some time to visit their site and check out the trailer. Personally, I think it should be good - the addition of Amanda Peet is always a +. Stay tuned for the contest, discuss the movie here, and make sure to visit SavingSilverman.com.

Golden Globes & Box Office Updates
Cast Away continues to hold strong at the box office, staying in it's 2nd position, and it is fared well, for star Tom Hanks at the Golden Globes this Sunday. Winner of Best Actor, Drama, he along with George Clooney for O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Julia Roberts for Erin Brockovich, and Renee Zellweger for Nurse Betty took home the top awards. Best picture, drama, went to Gladiator while Almost Famous took the comedy/musical best picture award. Not to be outdone, the Taiwanese film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon took home awards for best foreign language film and best director, Ang Lee.

Quick summary of the update: top box office is to your right in the side bar and the winners of all the Golden Globes can be found here.

Reviews Added: Save the Last Dance & 10 Things I Hate About You
A new review of the surprisingly good Save the Last Dance has been added, and like a couple of days ago, I went back into the archive to pull out another Julia Stiles movie to add - 10 Things I Hate About You. Luckily Save the Last Dance wasn't even close to being as bad as 10 Things was - where 10 Things faltered was the formulaic plot, typical characters, and no really interesting dialogue - luckily Save the Last Dance goes in the opposite direction with intelligent dialogue, unique characters, and a storyline that doesn't follow the basics.

Make sure you check back in tomorrow when I'll have a review of either Snatch, starring Brad Pitt, or The Gift, starring Cate Blanchett, Katie Holmes, and Keanu Reeves.

Reviews Added: Finding Forrester & Good Will Hunting
With a review of Finding Forrester being added, I thought it only right that I go back into the archives and add a review of Good Will Hunting - both directed by Gus Van Sant and dealing with similar subject matters.

I'm also looking forward to this Friday's releases of The Gift, Snatch, and The Pledge - the first two I've been waiting to see for quite a while and the buzz surrounding The Pledge is that it might actually be a good movie (which I didn't expect). Hopefully, it'll be a weekend of 3 good movies - we'll just have to wait and see.

Review Added: Thirteen Days
I had been looking forward to Thirteen Days for quite a long time - and I wasn't disappointed one bit today when I saw it. Kevin Costner stars as the assistant to the President in this dramatic retelling of the Cuban Missle Crisis. Although his accent has been called over-the-top, he does a good job, as well as both Bruce Greenwood and Steven Culp - as John and Robert Kennedy, respectively.

Also added to the review database today, a review of the Orlando Jones and Freddie Griffin comedy, Double Take.

Review Added: Double Take
I hope everyone is enjoying this nice 3 day weekend and has a chance to get out to the movies at least once this weekend. I added a review of the new release, Double Take. It stars 7-Up spokesman Orlando Jones and comedian Freddie Griffin as they try and make their way to Mexico to escape multiple agencies. The movie has a couple of high points, but is extremely confusing throughout and unfortunately is brought down overall by a terrible script.

I'll be seeing Thirteen Days in a few hours, so expect a review later tonight. I've been looking forward to this movie for a while, so hopefully it won't let me down like Double Take did.

Best DVDs of 2000
I've just released my list of the Top 10 DVD releases of 2000. It's no surprise that New Line's Platinum series picked up 3 of the top 10 (2 of the top 5) - they simply continue to put out more impressive DVDs every time. The Top 10 features a diverse array of movies from years past, including classics such as Jaws, to modern films such as Chasing Amy and Se7en. See the list here and discuss it here

Weekend Releases
Tomorrow (Friday) looks to be quite a busy day with the wide release of State and Main along with Thirteen Days, Double Take, Antitrust, and Save the Last Dance. Also, tomorrow will see the unveiling of The Lord of the Rings trailer before Thirteen Days. From what I've heard, it is an awesome trailer, and would be worth the price of a matinee, but don't see Thirteen Days for the trailer, see it for Thirteen Days, I've heard it's quite good. I'll be home for the nice, long three-day weekend, but should still be able to get new reviews up. Look for Double Take and Thirteen Days some time before the weekend is over.

Box Office Update & New Review
The in depth box office stats have been updated as they are every Tuesday. I also added a late review of Proof of Life. Other than that, not much to report. Tomorrow Snatch (discuss) is released in limited markets (wider January 19th). Also, this Friday is shaping up to be a busy day with the wide release of State and Main along with Thirteen Days, Double Take, Antitrust, and Save the Last Dance.

Review Added: Traffic
Forgive the recent lack of updates, but I have been busy with the return to school looming only a couple of days away. I just moved back into my apartment after a nice 4 week vacation, and I should be able to get back on track quite soon. The updates may have been scarce, but your patience has paid off. I just added a review of the critically acclaimed, Traffic. While I did find the direction, cinematography, and story line well done, it did have it's flaws, and thusly did not end up on my Best of 2000 list. Last week's full box office statistics should be up shortly as well.

I've put up my list of the Best of 2000. Also included are links to Critics' picks and Golden Globe nominees. I recently saw O Brother, Where Art Thou? which was included in a few categories. Happy New Year's
Just a quick update wishing everyone a happy and most prosperous new year. I hope that this new year brings you new experiences and a year full of surprises. As a side note, the preliminary box office results have been released with very little change from last week. Miss Congeniality moved up after the positive word was spread. At the same time, Vertical Limit and Dracula 2000 switched spots in 7th and 8th and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon held strong in 10th on only 162 screens.

I'd also like to welcome all readers of outermost.net to the new site and I look forward to many more years of movie news, reviews, and discussion.
