Update...
Sorry for the recent lack of updates - due to a complete computer failure, I haven't been able to update the box office, but it should all be updated by tomorrow (hopefully). I also have a few DVD reviews to post which I haven't yet, and those too should be up quite soon. As for this weekend, The Mexican and See Spot Run debut in theaters. I'm not too excited about either one of them, but I'll most likely see The Mexican and NOT See Spot Run which looks like a completely idiotic story and an even stupider movie. I can't believe they actually made this movie about a smart dog and a stupid man. If you really want a man/dog caper, see Turner & Hooch, but stay far away from See Spot Run. Check in Friday night for a review of The Mexican and look for updates of the box office and DVD reviews tomorrow.

Review Added: 3000 Miles to Graceland
I added a review of the action flick 3000 Miles to Graceland, and while it does start smoothly (after the CGI animated opening sequence), it suffers afterwards and spirals downward to just end up as your standard Jan/Feb movie.

I Feel so Special
While reading one of the three great newsletters put out by Lockergnome today (the Digital Media newsletter to be exact - link to today's newsletter), I saw a review for the Summer of Sam DVD Review that I wrote and posted over at DVDTalk (I submit my reviews there and here). As an avid reader of Lockergnome, and a faithful visitor to DVDTalk (I moderate the At the Movies forum there), I felt extremely honored to be featured. Thanks to Lockergnome for the link and DVDTalk for the publicity. Now, let's just hope I can get more hits here as a result. And I saw 3000 Miles to Graceland today - it was actually better than expected - while not a great movie - the action scenes are indeed pretty cool and keep your interest throughout. Review coming later tonight...

Massive Update
It's been a busy Monday, but I'm utilizing my time off to update the site - new reviews of Down to Earth and Sweet November have been added along with the box office update. Hannibal once again dominated the box office, bringing in over $30 million with the three new movies this weekend coming in 2nd, 3rd and 4th - Down to Earth, Recess, and Sweet November, respectively. See the full statistics to your right. Coming later today, new DVD reviews...

Academy Award Nominees Announced
I posted a long update on the Academy Award nominations, but when I went to post it, I had been logged out, so I lost the large post. So, in short, Gladiator led the way with 12 nominations, followed closely by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with 10. 3 films tied for third place with 5 nominations each: Chocolat, Erin Brockovich, and Traffic. Not surprisingly, the top 5 films in terms of nominations were the 5 films nominated for best picture. Make sure you check the full list of nominations to see all the movies that are up for consideration this year. Also, the box office has been updated with full details - including Hannibal's dominance and Valentine's demise.

Box Office News
Hannibal 'ate' up the box office this weekend, bringing in over $58 million dollars and setting the record for biggest opening of an R rated movie (previously held by Scary Movie). Also, this weekend, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon passed Life Is Beautiful as the highest grossing foreign language film at U.S. box offices. Full stats are to the right with complete detailed statistics coming on Tuesday.

Review Added: Hannibal
While being dumped on by critics across the country, I couldn't help but love Hannibal. I thoroughly enjoyed Thomas Harris' novel, and even with the replacement of Foster by Julianne Moore, I had high hopes. And luckily, those high hopes were fulfilled. From start to finish, this movie entertains and the suspense flows freely. I have no doubt that this will be the #1 movie this weekend, and hopefully as word spreads it will stay atop the box office charts. Don't delay, get out and see Hannibal now!

Review Added: The Claim
Even though I saw The Claim back in the middle of December, I really didn't have the time then to write a review. After checking the release dates at IMDb, I'm confused as to why the studio is waiting until late April to release this great film. Perhaps that's the only open weekend for the movie to fit in, but whatever the reason, it's truly a shame the general public will have to wait until then. The Claim takes a moving story and combines it with superb acting and flawless direction, to create one of the true surprises of last year. I'll most likely see it again when released on the big screen to pick up on anything I might have missed during the first viewing. You'll have to wait until April 20th, but when it's out, make sure you don't miss it. Coming later today, a review of Hannibal. I read the book right after it was released, and was thoroughly impressed and although Jodie Foster is not returning as Clarice, Julianne Moore has long been one of my favorite actresses, and I look forward to her portrayal of Starling. No doubt you've heard about the countless plot revisions and tensions on the set, but in his first directing job since Gladiator, I have full faith in Ridley Scott as he directs two of my favorite actors to, what I hope, is a brilliant movie.

DVD Review: The Old Man and the Sea & Box Office Update
I've added a new DVD Review of The Old Man and the Sea (which contains a pretty detailed movie review as well). This classic 1958 movie didn't get the best transfer to DVD, but still deserves a viewing for the great story and performance by Spencer Tracy (for which he recieved his 6th of 9 Oscar nominations). Also added, a new movie review, of the horrible film, Valentine. Stay as far away from this one as possible. Also, the In-Depth Box Office has been updated with the complete totals from last weekend (yes, it's little late, but as they say: better late than never). As for this weekend's movies, I'll hopefully be seeing Hannibal tomorrow after work and I'll try and get the review posted A.S.A.P., and if you're looking forward to Saving Silverman, be sure to read the review first, and remember, tomorrow (Friday) is your last day to enter the Saving Silverman Contest where you can win t-shirts and/or posters from the film. Also, as a little sidenote, according to the latest numbers from Alexa, Movielocity.com was ranked #50 among all DVD review sites on the Internet. A pretty big accomplishment, if I do say so myself, considering Movielocity.com only opened on January 1.

Review Added: Saving Silverman & Box Office Update
No doubt you've seen the Saving Silverman contest I've been running, but now, a full week early, you can read a review of the comedy, Saving Silverman. Unfortunately, it wasn't as good as I expected with a poor script filled with tasteless jokes, but good acting from Jack Black, Steve Zahn, and Amanda Peet. The weekend box office has also been updated with The Wedding Planner taking the top spot once again at theaters. Valentine (review coming soon) opened at 2nd taking in just over $10 million and Cast Away held strong at third, breaking the $200 million dollar mark this weekend. Rounding out the top 5, Save the Last Dance dropped 2 spots to 4th and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon moved up a spot to 5th as it expanded to more theaters this weekend.

Comics!
Your attention please, just added to Movielocity.com, COMICS! Poking fun at and humorously illustrating current movies, these comics are sure to provide a much needed break from the day. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the comics. Also, the Saving Silverman Contest is still up and waiting to be won. Entries will not be accepted after February 9th - so enter now! This weekend looks pretty weak at the movies - looks like all we're getting is Head Over Heels, another quality Freddie Prinze Jr. movie along with Valentine, where we most likely get to see Denise in a wet t-shirt or something along those lines in the premise of Scream XXI or whatever we may be up to now. I think I'd rather spend my time catching up on quality movies - like Snatch, Shadow of the Vampire, or Malena...
