Review Added: Tomcats
Added a new review of the horrible sex-comedy Tomcats. I don't think that there's really anything that could have been done to save this horrible movie. First I go expecting to see Blow, only to find it sold out, so I opt for Tomcats, hoping to see a bit of one of my favorite actresses/models, Julia Schultz, only to see about 5 minutes of her, and then being forced to suffer through the rest of this "comedy" devoid of any humor. Please, before seeing the movie, read the review and if you don't agree, look up the rest of the reviews it's received at either The MRQE or Rotten Tomatoes (where it scored an abysmal 17% rotten rating).

Crap!
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it to Blow tonight because when I got to the theater 1 hour early, it was sold out, so I had to settle for Tomcats. Either the movie was horrible or I went in with too high of expectations - it just was horrible from start to finish (although not as bad as Say It Isn't So from what I've heard). I was looking forward to more of one of the cutest actresses today - Julia Schultz (Nutty Professor II) - as her appearance in the interviews would have suggested, but she only makes about 5 minutes worth of screen time - a major disappointment. Shannon Elizabeth, riding high on the success of her American Pie nudity proves that in a serious role, she's nothing more than good looks and Jerry O'Connel and Jake Busey are their same old, bad acting, stupid face-making, selves. Certainly nothing special, and hopefully when Blow comes out next week, I'll finally have an upbeat review to write (unless I see Memento (website) tomorrow).

A Few Quick Updates
I had some spare time, so I've updated the weekend box office from last weekend (to your right -->) and added a few links to the growing Links database along with doing some behind-the-scenes maintenance. Also added a listing of all the Oscar Winners and I plan on doing a complete wrap-up within the next week. Stay tuned for a special sneak preview of Blow tonight!

I'm Baaaack!
Well, I'm back from my Vegas Vacation. It was fun, but costly, as gambling always is. Anyways, look for some massive updates coming soon. I hope to see either Tomcats (see exclusive video interviews from Tomcats here) or Blow today. I still have a lot of catching up to do both at the theaters (Say it Isn't So, Exit Wounds, etc) and at the site (Enemy at the Gates, 15 Minutes, etc). It's good to be back as 4 days of no internet access almost put me into shock and I hope to have everything updated and running in under a week.

Vegas Bound
I'll be out of town for the next few days and without any method to update the website. I hope that everything goes well here and that the Academy doesn't make any bad decisions tonight. I'll be back to update everything on Wednesday including the Academy Awards, box office, and my backlog of movie reviews.

Finals are Over - Phew!
Nothing new to report here unfortunately. I plan on working on a few movie reviews over the weekend as I try and catch up after taking time off for finals last week. I won't be available to update the site Sunday through Wednesday as I will be enjoying my Spring break in Las Vegas, but once I return, I'll try and get an Oscar wrap-up written along with other various projects I've been working on. Thanks for sticking with me as the site has been pretty stagnant over the last few days - look for more constant updates in the weeks to come.

Another Update: Reviews & Box Office
While I've been quite busy with finals, I have gotten out to see some movies, I just haven't been able to write them up yet. I saw Enemy at the Gates on Sunday and last night (Tuesday) I saw Oscar-nominated Javier Bardem's wonderful performance in Before Night Falls and I hope to get out tonight to see Pollock - which garnered nominations in the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories. Unfortunately I still have a large paper due later this week, and until I'm done with that, I probably won't be able to post reviews for the 3 films listed above.

One thing I was able to update quickly was the box office stats from the weekend which can be viewed on the bar to your right --»

Quick Update
Saturday night, I ventured out to see Enemy at the Gates, starring Jude Law, et al. Unfortunately, after meeting up with a friend and then driving to the theater, we were turned away because some sort of alarm had gone off in the theater and they were behind schedule, so the rest of the night was cancelled. Tongith, we agreed on a different theater, and we got in, and I enjoyed the movie. While it does have its downsides, overall, this is a very suspenseful, energetic, and enjoyable movie. I would write a review tonight along with updating the box office (Exit Wounds #1, Enemy at the Gates #2, The Mexican #3), but I have a final tomorrow morning and another Tuesday morning, but after those are done with, I'm just left with a take-home final that's due Friday, but which I hope to turn in earlier to leave me more time for Spring Break. I'll have updates soon though...

Phew! Box Office Updates & DVD Review
The full, in-depth box office has been updated, but is not yet available through the link on the upper bar, only here for now. But it's nice to be able to update after the past week I've been through - school has been hell with papers, homework, and midterms, but it's all over now - until finals next week...

I also added some DVD reviews a while ago, but never updated them here. Make sure you check out my in-depth review of Titus (which is at the current time incorrectly linked on the side bar). Also, look for a review of David Mamet's great suspense-thriller, The Spanish Prisoner in the coming days.

Review Added: Heartbreakers
This past Saturday, there was a sneak preview for the upcoming movie, Heartbreakers. The movie stars Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt as two con-artists who scam men into marrying them, cheating, and then settling in a divorce for large cash sums. Unfortunately, with as much potential as the movie had, it just is one disappointment after another. The script is horrible and the score by Danny Elfman just doesn't fit with the movie. The only positive side to this movie had to have been Jason Lee, probably one of the best actors we have today - every time I see him, he just plays his role perfectly and with a comedy that is rare in most actors. I wouldn't recommend Heartbreakers unless you are expecting a bad movie with just one upside.

Also, the weekend box office preliminary statistics are up to your right - The Mexican once again topped the box office, with the newly opened (and soon to be reviewed) 15 Minutes taking second place. See the preliminary statistics to your right and look for the full, complete charts late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Review Added: You Can Count on Me
Every once in a while, a film comes along that challenges everything we have been lulled to think a movie should be - the action, the sappy romance, the special effects. You Can Count on Me is able to forgo the mainstream pandering that we are used to and instead rely on character development, superlative acting, and a script that doesn't dumb itself down. I don't know what's more upsetting - that I didn't see this movie earlier or knowing that the Academy most likely won't reward Laura Linney for her acting or Ken Lonergan for his brilliant script. I can only hope that they do the right thing and go against the mainstream, but if there's one thing you can count on, it's that You Can Count on Me is one of the best films I almost missed.

Movies to See:
Movies I need to see before the Oscars: Before Night Falls (best actor), Pollock (best actor, best supporting actress), Shadow of the Vampire (best supporting actor, best makeup), Vatel (best art direction), and Malena (best cinematography, best original score).

Update: Box Office & Comics
Just a quick update, the in-depth box office has been updated with last weekend's full numbers as well as three new comics being added - The Mexican, 15 Minutes, and Original Sin.

I also went out and saw You Can Count on Me tonight - quite a good movie - Laura Linney was great (hence the Oscar nod) as was McCauly's little brother Rory Culkin.

Box Office Update
The final weekend results were released on Tuesday, and as I predicted, Hannibal was able to hop up to second place over the pathetic See Spot Run. The Mexican was easily able to hold on to first with almost twice the amount of income as the second place film. Full results are available here and here only - I'll update the main box office page later tonight.

Also, if anyone's interested, the new dark-romantic-comedy, Heartbreakers, starring Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love-Hewitt will have a sneak preview this weekend (Saturday I believe). Check your local listings for the exact time. Other than that, the only movie that comes out this weekend is 15 Minutes, starring Robert DeNiro.

Review Added: The Mexican
Dual-Update:
1) Added a review of The Mexican, starring Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts - a light and 'cute' romantic comedy/action/suspense that runs a little too long, but is entertaining nonetheless.

2) Updated the weekend box office (see table to the right). The Mexican took the top spot away from Hannibal taking in over $20 million. See Spot Run took the 2nd spot with $10 million, just barely beating out Hannibal (Hannibal might even move up win the final results are released Tuesday). Rounding out the top 5 were Down to Earth taking in $8 million and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon making just under $5 million to take it's overall total up to over $88 million.

Box Office & Other Stuff
I have updated the full box office statistics for the last two weeks, however, they are only viewable through these links for now: Last Week and 2 weeks ago. They will be added to the box office stats and archive page as soon as possible.

As mentioned earlier, two new movies come out this weekend; The Mexican and See Spot Run. I don't know about you, but I think that See Spot Run looks horrible and will bomb at the box office, whereas The Mexican, which actually has some potential, might actually dethrone Hannibal from the top box office spot as it rides on the backs of its two stars: Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. We'll just have to wait and see.
