Back from Vacation & Box Office Update
My vacation up to Canada was great - had a lot of fun and hope to go back again sometime soon. I had a chance to see Tomb Raider up there and while I wasn't that impressed, I didn't have very high expectations going in, but did have fun for the most part. Also, the box office bar to your right has been updated with the two new releases last weekend taking the top two spots - The Fast & The Furious dominated the box office taking in over $41 million while Dr. Dolittle opened with just over $26 million. Tomb Raider continued strong in 3rd with over $20 million and Atlantis slipped a bit to 4th taking in just over $13 million. The other animated film in the top 10, Shrek continues to surprise Hollywood raking in $11 million, bringing it's total box office to over $215 million!

In the next few days, once I catch up and get back into my daily routine, I'll be able to see all the movies I missed in the past few weeks and catch up on my reviews which have fallen behind a bit.

Vacation
Well, school is finally out - so you might think that I'd have more time to work on the site and add reviews for the movies I've seen in the last week or so that I've yet to review...and you're partially right.

I will be on vacation for the next week and a half, and thusly won't be able to update the site in any way, shape, or form, but once I return - watch out - updates galore. I'll review Tomb Raider, Evolution, Swordfish, and Moulin Rouge. Just stay tuned, and it'll be well worth your wait (plus I might even post some pictures from my vacation).

Swordfish takes top spot, Shrek, Pearl Harbor & Evolution close behind.
In a surprise move, John Travolta's spy-flick, Swordfish opened at the top spot in theaters this weekend taking in over $18 million. Following closely behind was Shrek, the great comedy of an ogre and his quest to clear his swamp, making just over $17 million. Rounding out the top 3 was Pearl Harbor, falling dramatically from 1st to 3rd and making only $14.9 million, bringing its total box office to only $144.1 million (the film needs to gross more tha $450 million just to make a profit). Evolution, which I saw yesterday, but have yet to write a review for, opened up in 4th place with just over $13 million. See the side-bar to your right for the full top 10 results from this weekend's box office.

Review Added: The Animal
I don't really even know why I'm posting here to let you know that I added a review of The Animal. It's an absolutely horrible movie that through some strange rift in the time-space continuum, is actually being liked by some critics (which include the fictitious David Manning). Hopefully Sandler and Schneider don't team up on any more of these absurd, pointless, and downright stupid wastes of time. Unfortunately I had the experience of finding out my local theater raised prices for matinee showings $0.50 to $6.00 because this was quite possibly the biggest waste of money this Summer season. (Luckily I saw Moulin Rouge on Monday, which was infinitely better - I should have a review up later tonight).

Moulin Rouge
Just got back from seeing Moulin Rouge and all I have to say is: fantastic. The settings were amazing and the musical numbers top-notch. While listening to Talk of the Nation on NPR today, they briefly discussed this movie and apparently it's either love it or hate it. I loved it and hope that others get out to see it. As much as the studio is trying to promote it as a movie for the mainstream viewer, it's anything but. Baz Luhrmann is definately eccentric, and it shows in Moulin Rouge - it's just beautifully spectacular!

Box Office Update & The Animal
I updated the weekend box office which has Pearl Harbor once again taking the top spot with over $30 million. Shrek trailed close behind with over $28 million as the new films opened 3, 4, and 5 - The Animal ($19.8m), Moulin Rouge ($14.2m), and What's the Worst that Could Happen? ($13.2m).

I just got back from seeing The Animal (I was supposed to see Moulin Rouge last night, but I'll be seeing it Wednesday instead), and it was less than stellar. Actually, without seeing the other movies opening this weekend, I'll go out on a limb and call it the worst of the three. Schneider once again doesn't have much to offer (after the horrible Deuce Bigalow) and as much as I'd like to see Colleen thrive in Hollywood, she just can't act. Sorry Colleen ;). If you're looking for a movie, see something else - Shrek, Moulin Rouge, anything else.
