August 2001

This Week @ Theaters...
Not much to report around here other than I plan on seeing "O" sometime this weekend and have no plans on seeing "Jeepers Creepers" in theaters. Jeepers looks to be a horribly bad scare-fest with little or no plot, whereas "O" plays off an old classic and looks to actually have some substance to it. Look for a review coming soon.

Review Added: Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Even though I saw it last week, I've just now added a review of Captain Corelli's Mandolin. It's a welcome change in this summer of disappointing sequels, action flicks, and unfunny comedies. Also, being released today, read the advance review of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - for any Kevin Smith fans, you won't be disappointed, for those of you who don't know who Kevin Smith is, get out from under your rock! Have a great weekend!

Review Added: Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back
Less of a review, and more of a rant on all things Kevin Smith, I've posted a rather long diatribe that more or less centers on Smith's final movie in the Jersey series, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Read it, be amused, and please, let me know what you thought of it in the discussion boards.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back Tonight!
My ticket has been purchased and I'm going to leave quite soon to see the sneak preview of Jay & Silent Bob Strike back (I've been looking forward to this for quite a while). After spectacular films in Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy, I thought Kevin Smith had lost his edge with Dogma, but from the trailers, this film looks to return to the good ol' comedy I've grown to love. Also, I saw Captain Corelli's Mandolin yesterday and plan on getting a review up some time tomorrow! Snooch!

Added Review: Rush Hour 2 + O Notes
I've added a belated review of Rush Hour 2 - but you know what they say, better late than never (e.g. Moulin Rouge :). Also, I've added some information the upcoming film, "O" - the notes include information about the story, cast and crew, along with newly posted trailers and more.

New Reviews: Rat Race & American Pie 2 (plus box office data)
Lest you think I've forgotten about writing movie reviews, I've added two new ones. First, we have the hilarious race for $2 million, Rat Race. Featuring a truly funny script, albeit including some outrageous situations, you'll find yourself laughing out loud when this movie is released this Friday. Second, we have the unfunny sequel to a good movie (what a surprise), in American Pie 2. I'm sure there'll be people out there that enjoy it, but it isn't as good as the first and just tries to hard to live up to a level it can't attain.

Speaking of which, not surprisingly, American Pie 2 was number 1 at the box office this weekend, dethroning Rush Hour 2 - an interesting tidbit: not one movie this summer has been #1 two weeks in a row. The last film to accomplish such a feat: Pearl Harbor - way back in May. Rounding out the top 5, The Princess Diaries continues strong in 3rd, The Others opened in 4th, and Planet of the Apes slips to 5th. See the bar on your right for the top 10 with total $$$.

Updates forthcoming
Don't think that I've forgotten about the site. As you can probably tell, I'm a couple of weeks behind in movie reviews, but I will get them posted soon. New reviews will include: Made, Sexy Beast, Planet of the Apes, Rush Hour 2, American Pie 2, Ghost World, and quite possibly, The Others. Just stay tuned - and thanks for sticking in there.

Favorite Movies?
Since I haven't had a chance to update for a while due to time constraints, I thought I'd pose a question to the general public: What are some of your favorite movies that you can watch over, and over again? What movies can you see on TV and watch to the end regardless of the point in the movie? What are the most re-watchable movies in your opinion? Post your thoughts here in the discussion boards.

Box Office Update & Reviews Coming soon
I've updated the box office for this past weekend - not surprisingly, Rush Hour 2 took the top spot, debuting with over $66 million. Planet of the Apes slipped a bit to 2nd, taking in just under $28.5 million as The Princess Diaries opened with an impressive $23.2 million. Stay tuned for updates all this week as I catch up from my vacation and see more new movies.

Back from NY
Just a quick update - I'm back from NY and still recovering. Had a great time there for the most part (maybe I'll post some of the 225 pictures I took while there). I did get a chance to partake in the outrageously high $10 movie ticket there - saw Made and Sexy Beast (the latter was only $9.50 though). Last night, I also saw Planet of the Apes and today I hope to see Rush Hour 2, so look for quite a few reviews/updates in the next few days...
